I was recently made aware that Kaleidoscope - the Birmingham-based British TV archivists - are trying to raise funds to help get the IBA Education Archive onto their YouTube channel and they’re looking for donations to help support this. They’re looking for a total of £2,000 to support the licencing rights and labour involved, so it’s far from an obscene amount of money - and, best of all, everyone benefits.
So, if you have fond memories of crowding round the television at school - and escaping the rigours of conventional learning - for half an hour, just take a look at the videos below for more information and then dig into your pocket:
I hope some of these old shows do see the light of day once more. In around 1987-1988 the Central TV cameras turned up at the junior school I was attending at the time to film a segment for their show Science Start Here and I was filmed throwing a paper airplane for an episode. The ten year-old me was absolutely delighted to be seen on TV but sadly, I haven't seen the episode since then. There is an episode of the show titled 'Flight' and I think that may possibly be the episode in question but I don't know for sure.
