Strange how things circle back around and Russia is being a b*tch again, I hope in my heart of hearts that this movie remains fiction. Before that it was The Wargame from 20 years earlier, which I saw when I was 16. It totally freaked me out and I showed it to my history classes. Threads is largely based on that, but I don’t think I could even show it to minors. It’s that much more horrifying. Trump, Putin, Kim Jeong Eun and others should be tied down with lidlocks like in Clockwork Orange and be forced to watch it repeatedly.

Interestingly enough, the “milder” The Day After” from 1983 may be the most important nuclear war film ever made, because Ronald Reagan watched it and was totally freaked out. He wasn’t a reader, b
It was tuned in to mov
It’s. One might date his toning down the Cold War from that time. Brilliant as it is, ...A stunningly brilliant film. Brilliant as it is, I don't think we can truly, deeply, honestly comprehend, in a visceral way, how terrible and event like this would actually be. Thermonuclear hydrogen fusion bombs must never, ever be used. I have worked at seeking out other films (on DVD) on this topic. I have a bit of a collection now. "Threads" stands head and shoulders above ALL other attempts. I should be broadcast on a regular basis around the world - say once a year. All senior government officials should be required to watch it. And that is senior government officials of all countries - not just those with nuclear capability. Even non-nuclear nations can get into the mix and provoke responses. Finally, multilateral, world-wide nuclear disarmament must be a goal. Impossible as that may seem to us now, it has to be something to work toward - for ALL countries holding these weapons. These weapons are qualitatively different than all previous kinetic explosives. Should they ever be used in conflict, the results could well be so devastating that there will be no one left to regret it. Just microorganisms that survive and mutate. Perhaps the dead will be lucky ones. All the positive comments written before mine are excellent. However, I think Mike C's comment from 11 September 2017 sums it up best for me. It's May 2022 now. I just purchased "Threads" on DVD because I want to relive it again after seeing it when it was first broadcast here in Canada. Yes, every senior government official in all countries should be required to view this film - even non-nuclear states who can provoke other nations. And now, given what is happening between Russia and Ukraine, viewing "Threads" now is a very appropriate time to do so. There are many horrific scenes in this film - as there should be. What I remember gripping me the most upon my initial viewing was the look of horror on Jane's face after she is handed her stillborn baby. I must confess, I have often wondered (and still do) if her horror was at the stillbirth, or was it due to a combination of the stillbirth and physical deformities that the infant may have had. But as her expression became so horrified and then the film froze... and ended. I was deeply shaken. While a bit older than Mike C. I too felt some affection for Jane. My heart broke for her. And to read his comment about the fate of the young actress who played Jane, my heart breaks again, but even more so. It was played with the US counterpart "The Day After" which is just as harrowing. The final scene with Jason Robards reduced to a pale zombie and saying "get out of my house" to another survivor, who then embraces him is heart-breaking. Then to find the dad had his head bashed in was so upsetting. Just like a Hitchcock film, it's not always what scene is put in a film that terrifies people. Sometimes it's what plays in your imagination while watching a film that scares you. An excellent film. Glad my parents didn't let me see it when I was a kid.
